2025 — Bill Bridges Honored by the FAA
Bill Bridges, founder and co-owner of The Flight Shop at Brigham City Airport, has received the Federal Aviation Administration’s Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award, recognizing more than 50 years of service in aircraft maintenance.
The award is named for Charles Taylor, the Wright brothers’ mechanic, who designed and built the engine for their first successful aircraft. It recognizes the lifetime accomplishments of senior mechanics who have spent 50 years or more in aviation maintenance. To qualify, recipients must hold a U.S. Civil Aviation Authority or FAA mechanic or repairman certificate and have at least half a century of aviation maintenance experience.
Every recipient of the award represents a select group of professionals who have spent their careers devoted to safety, technical mastery and mentoring in the field of aviation.
Bridges’ love of aviation began with his grandfather and uncle, who were passionate about flying. He started his career on the flight line in Las Vegas in the late 1960s, then with his wife opened a maintenance business in Van Nuys, California. In 1978, the couple moved to Brigham City and launched The Flight Shop, which has since become a trusted stop for pilots throughout the world.
The Master Mechanic Award places his name alongside mechanics nationwide whose careers have shaped American aviation. His name will also be added to the FAA’s Roll of Honor in Washington, D.C., a permanent record of recipients recognized for their contributions to aircraft safety.
For Bridges, the recognition caps a lifetime spent in hangars and on flight lines — work that, in his words, has always been less about awards than about “keeping people safe in the sky.”
